Mr. Taylor stated that the ' league had been created to act as a supplementary body to the city government and that it was hoped, by the creation of a strong public sentiment, to do much toward rendering valuable assistance to officers of the law in the discharge of their duties. In. concluding his re marks : Mr. ; Taylor extended to the mayor ; the hearty support of . the league and assured him ' of its en couragement and support in the fight against -possible "blind tigers." Mayor Springer then responded and he defined his position with regard to the prohibition question in unequivocal and outspoken manner. He stated that he was a strict prohibitionist and said that the law. would be rigidly en forced, promising his own best efforts, and that of the police department from the' cbief of police to private, in the effort to apprehend and to bring to speedy and deserved justice every one. who attempts to violate the law.
